In an ideal world it would be most beneficial to treat a women as they try to get pregnant and then during pregnancy. However, acupuncture is still very effective and gives great relief if commenced during pregnancy.

Acupuncture can be especially helpful during pregnancy. Experience and research have shown that the majority of pregnancy ailments can be successfully treated with acupuncture. These ailments are generally treated as ‘par of the course’ however it is not necessary to suffer in pregnancy.

Pregnant women are reluctant to take drugs unless it is absolutely essential, many would benefit from acupuncture as a safe drug free alternative. It is usually recommend that mothers-to-be consider having acupuncture every four to six weeks.

Acupuncture can be used to help stimulate the flow of blood to the uterus and to help lift your energy levels. It's great for relieving stress too - stress isn't good for mother or baby - and for relieving some of the more common ailments of pregnancy like nausea, fatigue or back-ache.

It's often used in the last few weeks of pregnancy as well, helping to prepare you for birth. It can be used to help induce labour, or to turn breech babies, and to help with pain relief during the birth.

And, of course, acupuncture can be used to help new mothers too. The early weeks and months following the birth can be very demanding, both physically and emotionally.

Postnataly acupuncture can be fantastic for rebalancing the body and boosting energy levels. Acupuncture is also extremely useful in alleviating the symptoms of postnatal depression.

A few sessions of acupuncture can be really helpful in relieving backache and exhaustion. It can help you to relax and rebuild your energy as well.
